China's first Winter Olympic gold medalist and National People's Congress representative Ms. Yang Yang has launched the North Star Charitable Foundation with Mr. Gavin Ni, Founder and CEO of Zero2IPO Group and Mr. Tao Ye, Vice-President of KeyTone Ventures.
The Hong Kong-registered foundation aims at spreading the Olympic spirit to Chinese youngsters, especially those affected by the Sichuan earthquake and those who live in rural, impoverished communities. The foundation has won strong support from China venture capital and private equity industry.
"We established this foundation to promote positive thinking among the youngsters and provide a nurturing atmosphere for them to grow stronger and become more optimistic towards life," said Yang Yang.
"With the support of other Olympic champions and joint collaborations, we hope to help these youngsters to develop a brighter future. This is a long-term vision because these things cannot happen overnight. However, we are confident that we have the resources to realize this dream."
With various physical activity programs, the North Star Charitable Foundation aims to give youngsters who were affected by the Sichuan earthquake the motivation to move on with their lives and allow their mental and physical capabilities to thrive.
The foundation also aims at establishing a steady social network through promoting the sports programs among the youngsters, local educators, volunteers, trainers and organizers.
The first phase of "Joy Sports" was launched on 5 March in Shifang, one of the cities most affected by the quake, with a roll-out plan to cover all 76 schools in the city. By 2010, the foundation plans to sponsor sports equipments for 200 schools in other areas and educate more than 1,000 trainers to facilitate the projects in the schools and local communities.
The scheme is looking to expand to other impoverished areas which were not affected by the Sichuan earthquake by 2011.
"Enjoy Sports, Enjoy Life."
The North Star Charitable Foundation, with the cooperation of the Beijing Volunteers Association and Communist Youth League of China, is now inviting you to take up social responsibility and join our charity work.
Together, we believe North Star Charitable Foundation will become a pioneer force calling for more attention towards the young generation's growth and prosperity.
